the dinner.. generated so much interest in Romania... we cant stop answereing questions and telling about our trip. People are telling us to count them in for financial support... thing is... our list is growing so fast we cant keep track of who what when and where!
thats silly.... we have a list! and youre on it!
O my.... when we wake up in the morning the devil is intent on knocking us down... but we get up and get moving. We have trials and struggles around every corner.. who doesnt right? The only perfect life is the one worth living in Christ Jesus... so here we go...
we spent the summer so far... riding horses and playing in the boat and just enjoying getting to know one another as our lives are so busy. We have become a stronger family. Nothing perfect... just stronger and more seasoned. The summer activity countdown was, for the most important event of the summer... the Romania, Horizon of Hope Car Show! we were moving right along... sending flyers to car shows and businesses and UUUUUURRRRCH! the brakes went on! Calling for permits and permission from the Village for the PA system to be used and other permits guess what!? We found out the Village Board needs to approve our request for use of the public facility for our event...we had already been told everything was good.. and i wonder what if we didnt call? NONE of that matters... I didnt catch the reason.. something about this being a non conventional use of the park grounds. we found this out the 3rd week of july and our event is a month away! we had been planning this show all summer... over 1500 flyers are out there and there is NO WAY to cancel. Its not a birthday party people... where you invite certain people and can call them to cancel! NOPE this takes months to put together! By the way... the PA system was approved in early July, how does that happen?
August 2nd... the board meeting comes around and we have people praying all over the place... Shawn... who dislikes being the center of attention and public speaking shows up to the board meeting willing to do whatever it takes.... and after listening to the neighborhood complain about fast driving cars, big trucks being on the roads they dont belong and scaring cats (not kidding)the board opens up the dialog about the Car Show! Shawns stomach is in knots and he is so nervous he can hear his heartbeat.. i think i can too from about 4 blocks away... The cause, the date, the desire is stated and Shawn mentions the reason for the car show... Horizon of Hope and what that means and who they are and why we care! Approved! not a bat or blink or dance in the smoke... APPROVED! Thank goodness.... now the real work begins... and after all this.. we get word the Horizon of Hope roof is going on! Are you kidding me! you think you go on a mission trip, fall in love with the people and just go home until next time? NOT if you are a Mathew ... Honey let me tell you!
WalMart not only agrees to give a discount on the food items... but at way better than cost and they will get the shopping carts all organized so all we have to do is pick it up! SERIOUSLY! Manderfields is helping with the buns... cant beat that! My friend Amy would be so pleased that we are having REAL BUNS and not the cheap stuff. ( See I listen! ) Cars are coming... we have a group of men volunteering for Security to keep everyone safe... cause im a momma bear.... cars are coming... the jump houses are ready.... cars are coming... tent is ready and the Church across the street will agreed to allow the use of their parking lot for additional parking and the CARS ARE COMING! I cant even imagine what we could do with more time!
I recently had a Pastor challenge me from the Pulpit with a question... How big is your GOD? Not your FAITH.. Your God! Does He infiltrate every aspect of your life... is He evident in everything you do? Can you be noticed from far away as a follower of the King of Kings.... or do you blend in?
I dont wanna blend in... never did... I wanna stand for something and make a difference even if just an encouragement to another person. Shelby left today for a Mission trip... inner city Chicago with her youth group.... we want to be used!
So the car, truck and cycle show exists to Glorify the one where Glory is due... send workers to unite His Kingdom both in far away lands and right here at home. Our small community of Combined Locks may never be the same... unite neighbor for neighbor and begin a mission right here at home! A worker never stops working no matter where their feet are planted!
Will we see you there? August 20th at Memorial Park in Combined Locks on Wallace Street from 8am -3pm
I feel like we never left Romania....
